Bangalore, INDIA, 19th January, 2011:- Cosmic Circuits, one of India’s first semiconductor companies, today announced the winners of the 3rd edition of their annual analog design contest “Nebula”. With over 900 registrations in this edition, the contestants had to triumph over three rounds starting them at the fundamentals and taking them all the way to designing an analog system to address a practical, real world challenge.
The final round was held at the Cosmic Circuits Head office in Bangalore with 19 finalists contesting for the final prize. While Prasanna R from IISc, Bangalore won the first prize, Sandeep S.K from IIT, Chennai won the second prize and Abhishek Kumar from IISc, Bangalore winning the third.
Addressing the finalists at the award presentation ceremony, Ganapathy Subramaniam, CEO of Cosmic Circuits explained that of the colossal $40 billion market for electronics in India, the share of parts manufactured in India was less than an abysmal 0.1%. This presented a unique growth opportunity for Indian semiconductor companies and efforts like Nebula would go a long way in building a strong community to power this growth. Answering a query from one of the finalists on the opportunities in Analog, he also observed that the semiconductor market pie, once dominated by digital parts like microprocessors and memories had experienced a shift towards Analog over the past decade and semiconductor companies globally now identify Analog as a focus area. Analog industry being talent driven, this provided a great opportunity for budding engineers in their pursuit of a successful career in semiconductors.
